How is Kidney Biopsy Done?
Kidneys perform various important functions
for our body. When kidneys fails to perform certain
functions properly, then the doctor can advice the
patient to get a kidney biopsy done. Kidney biopsy
is done by taking a small tissue from the kidney.
The tissue is generally extracted from the body
through a needle. This tissue is then studied under
microscope to know the cause of the problem. There
are various problems for which kidney biopsy is
required.
If the blood is extracting too much waste products,
this condition is caused when the kidneys are not
working properly. In this case the doctors can
advice kidney biopsy. This condition is also called
impaired kidney function. If there the urine is
accompanied with blood, this condition is called
hematuria and in this condition also the doctor can

reason is when there is excessive protein produced
in the urine. All these cases are serious cases and

behind all these problems. The tissue thus taken is
studied under the microscope and the reason of the
problem is determined.
Kidney biopsy is not a very serious procedure but it
is the responsibility of the doctor to explain the
patient about the various pros and cons of the
procedure. The doctor may administer some medicines
to the patients prior to the procedure. The various
dietary precautions are also needed. The patients
are advised to take light food. The doctor can also
tell the patients to get the blood and urine tests.
This is done to know if the patient is allergic to
some medicine. The patient is given local
anaesthesia and then a needle in inserted inside the
stomach, with the help of ultrasound. Then the
tissue is extracted from the body. The doctor can
make few pricks in the patient’s body as per
requirement. The patient is monitored for blood
pressure and blood loss. If the patient is feeling
fine, then the patient gets discharged. If the
patient notices any blood in the urine, fainting,
fever, or pain in the place where biopsy is done,
then the patient should immediately consult the
doctor. The doctor knows when the kidney biopsy is
required for the body. Therefore, it is very
important to go in accordance to the doctor’s
